They say he’s really talented Man this boy can rhyme He had to make himself a star just so he could shine His work ethic so crazy He's sleeping rarely No dreams of Mercedes just a kid and loyal lady I was voted most likely to end up famous That’ll probably happen with the right arrangements As long as I arrange it Time to take the city, no invasion Married to the game we just skipped the engagements Dinner arrangements, let’s face it You can make it even if the flow is so basic Man I’m on bay six Hit a home run twice now I’m on base six My auntie down in Cali said the bay’s sick So I, told her Seattle wasn’t doing much better Like me one night hate me the next guess it depends on the weather You know how that goes Sunny one day, the next it snows The cards will fold Before they show My talent shows And as I write my lyrics I just hope you get me And if I fade away I hope you can’t forget me I’m staying in my room Until the sun goes down The moon replace the sun, and then it stays around I don’t know; I’m trying to figure it out They say it’s so simple but I still have doubts I hope I’m not missing out Wasting more time Sitting in the dark Waiting just to shine A chapter that I’d call my best four years The pages turn as my grad date nears But that’s fine; I can’t wait for what’s coming Diploma, job, I’mma hit the ground running Search, found Above ground The smooth sounds keep you going when the beam gets thin Search, found Higher ground Smooth sounds We’re still going

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Recording an album has been a dream of mine for several years. This recording is that dream realized.

I want to thank Alex Rose for engineering and mixing the record, Rick Fisher for mastering, Amalia Drewes for the incredible album art, and Martin Buff for opening up his amazing recording studio, The Piano Studio, to my group in addition to taking the photos and videos.

I also want to thank Mindy and David Landsman for their endless love and support, Greg Sinibaldi and Steve Treseler for their invaluable private saxophone instruction, Parker Bixby and Ryan Lane for motivating and inspiring me when I joined the Mercer Island High School Band and started playing saxophone, Susan Bardsley for her musical guidance, and David Bentley, David Ball, Thomas Ball, Daniel Salka, and Levi Gillis for lending their gear while the group and I were in the studio.

Greg once told me that Wayne Shorter said “jazz means I dare you.” This statement resonated deeply with me. Since then, it has been on my mind every time I sit down to compose, and during every solo I take. I hope that, in making this recording, I have taken a dare. Enjoy the music.
